The Panama & Paradise Papers showed us one of the darkest faces of public-private corruption: The concealment of the owners or real beneficiaries of the companies. This deeply rooted practice allows funds to be diverted through corporations or offshore companies, hindering the tracking and investigation of corruption offenses and rendering the system.
Through this interactive workshop we intend:
- Present the standard and Open Ownership Register (https://register.openownership.org/), a platform that collects and publishes information globally and in an open format.
- Show successful cases of publication of information or registers of beneficial owners in open format such as the United Kingdom, or innovators, such as the case of Ukraine and contrast them with cases of information gaps.
- Present the difficulties that the countries find to advance in the implementation, the pros and cons of opening that information.
- Listen to the proposals of civil society to generate concrete commitments in this matter.
- Discuss with the participants what strategies to implement to overcome the lack of public information and open data in an alternative way.
