The Economic Impact of Open Data

Economic impact is a key driver of the adoption of open data by both government and industry. However, the open data sector is still struggling to understand how best to measure and frame economic impact.
In recent years, there have been several attempts to measure the macro economic impact at global, regional, national and sector levels. For example, the European Data Portal (EDP) conducted an overview of the economic benefits of open data in Europe. In April of this year, the Ukraine released the results of a national economic impact assessment. While other studies have attempted to measure the value of open data in a particular sector eg transport. Various research methodologies have piloted, but there is still no consistent approach for conducting economic impact assessments.
In this workshop, speakers from a range of contexts will highlight recent research efforts through a case study approach. Participants are invited to share examples from their own work, and contribute to developing a shared research agenda.
